'It' Bag | The Proenza Schouler PS1

Oct 20 ’22

The iconic ante-It bag.

Iconic is a word used to describe things all too often (and so often not entirely appropriately). Sartorially speaking, Chanel tweed, the Hermes Birkin, and the LV monogram safely hold this iconic status, but what of the modern-day icon? The recent designs that really have blended the timeless with the effortless and are perenially cool? Meet the Proenza Schouler PS1.

New York 'It' boys Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez introduced the PS1 to their brand Proenza Schouler in 2008. Collegiate in style and big on practicality, the PS1 delivered subtlety and refinement at a time when the fashion world was embracing the statement-making.

In the mid-2000's it was bags that leveraged the 'It' movement that were the biggest hits. Think the Fendi Baguette, the Louis Vuitton Multicolore monogram (a true darling of the noughties celebrity set) and the Chloe Paddington. The PS1, however, represented the antithesis of the It bag craze - it was understated and had an element of cool, you had to know what it was and quite frankly, IYKYK.

Carried by the 'in the know yet still It elite', the PS1 has been seen on the arms of Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba, Karli Kloss and the evergreen fashion darlings Mary-Kate and Ashley.

Well over a decade on, the PS1 has found numerous iterations - big, small, suede, textured, hyper colour - yet it's the Mini that has us crushing.

Holding onto all the schoolyard charm of the original, the Mini is the everyday update, the chicly proportioned cousin that truly represents day to night style.

We love it. After all 'It's' an icon.
