We are proud to be exclusive to launch the re-formulated Grand Larceny black label in New Zealand, could you please share with us the story of this scent?

"Named for the Patron Saint of Gardeners, we are devout in our credo to create in harmony with nature. At ST. ROSE sustainability is not merely a conference room buzz word but rather a discipline that drives us forward each day in our mission to tell a beauty story that is healthy for both people and planet. That commitment has led us to push boundaries for sustainable creation by including the innovative Upcycled Rose Concentrate, exclusive to our fragrance house, in our already widely loved fragrance, Grand Larceny Eau de Parfum. A bold move to reformulate in the name of Mother Earth and sure to steal more hearts than it breaks.

“After falling in love with the Upcycled Rose Concentrate, which first debuted with our award-winning Vigilante Eau de Parfum, I couldn’t help but look to our most rose dominant fragrance to see if we could make an ingredient substitution in place of the virgin rose extract. This revolutionary raw material is easily the most sustainable natural rose currently in existence within the fragrance industry and its unique aroma is otherworldly, maintaining the opulence of the queen of flowers but with a darker and mysterious facet.” - Belinda Smith, Founder

"The result of this substitution is a chypre fragrance for women and men that stays true to its original essence as a celebration of the intrinsic seductiveness of the rose and yet perhaps even better encapsulates the creative inspiration to compose a unisex rose parfum that defies all rules, redefining floral fragrances for the modern times."

THE IMPACT

The rose has been the muse of poets for millennia and highly coveted in the world of perfumery, but it is also a resource heavy material. During harvest months of May and June, pickers begin their work at the first break of dawn while the flowers are still wet with dew and before the sun and heat can evaporate the oil away. The perfect rose should be half open - neither rosebuds nor fully open roses are picked because their yield is too low. It takes 4,500 kilograms (or 5 tons) of fresh petals to make 1 kilogram (2.2 pounds) of essential oil.

Upcycling, also known as creative re-use, is the process of extracting olfactive components from once distilled petals rather than merely discarding them. The second distillation highlights unique facets of the rose, using every last drop of nature’s gift and yielding a significant environmental value.

Valentine's day is the perfect time for a gift of fragrance, which are your top 3 scents?

Agree, it's such a beautifully intimate gift and definitely one that sparks romance. Currently our top 3 are; Juliet In White, Gypsy Cowboy, and Vigilante with our new Grand Larceny formulation pushing its way into the mix.

What will you be doing on Valentine's day?

I'll still be home in Australia visiting family with my husband and baby boy so I might just be able to wrangle a rare date night with so many keen babysitters on hand. I've been really eager to try out Honto in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley which is an amazing Japanese restaurant and meant to also serve up some great date night vibes.
