New Zealand born Karen Walker has again taken on the runway against global fashion giants propelling her brand and NZ into the fashion spotlight once again.
Karen Walker’s show on Monday 16 (NY time), was propelled into media frenzy with controversial fan, The Fat Jewish, sitting front row sporting the designers popular sunglasses in pink, in an all white tracksuit and with his side kick Toast (who has 279K followers on insta).
Karen Walkers collection was based on outer space and Star City, a highly secretive astronaut-training base founded in Moscow. Karen Walker was quoted ‘folk meets utility meets glam’ with her juxtaposition of traditional Russian folksy style and space science.
Starry motifs were on knit sweaters and bold dress, gold leather and hardware such as zips and metal clasps gave a futuristic feel giving a show that was colourful, bold and fun.
Uber cool fashion label Opening Ceremony was a show not to be missed with front row eye candy including Laverne Cox looking a vision in a fitting caramel dress and Victoria and David Beckham looking not too shabby themselves.

Key looks from their runway for next season included mid-blue flared jeans a must for the winter staple and strong colours like rust.
Fashion super hero Alexander Wang went against the norm of design inspiration and references to inspiration instead stating that there was no particular inspiration for their collection and more about nice clothes. His first collection since the July announcement of leaving fashion house Balenciaga models sported hooded tops, sweaters inspired by American footballs. The overall feel is what has made Alexander Wang one of the world’s leading fashion labels – slouchy, cool, off duty and a style the never tries to hard.
